Twenty years in Panama. Most of the mistakes already made.

Ease Into has one rule: we only get paid for advice, never for what you decide.

Our story

We bought a piece of mountain land in Chicá in 2006. For three years we went back and forth, and in 2009 we moved down for good. We learned Spanish, became full residents and built an eco-lodge from bare land: the road, the water system, the buildings, the permits, the staff. It opened in 2011.

Along the way we bought land with problems nobody mentioned, hired builders who disappeared, and found the people who actually know how things work. From 2012 to 2018 we ran it as a lodge with a restaurant and B&B, then as an Airbnb on and off until 2025. In that time we met guest after guest who was “thinking about moving.” Some of them did. Some of them shouldn’t have.

Ease Into is what we wish those guests had had: someone who’d been through it, with nothing to sell.

The bigger picture

Ease Into Panama is the first hub of Ease Into. The idea is the same in every country: someone who lives there, with nothing to sell. Next, we’re exploring Portugal, Malta and Malawi.

What it’s actually like, from people who live there.

Field notes: one email every two weeks. Real costs, rainy-season roads and the questions people forget to ask.

Not sure yet? That’s the right place to start.

An hour on video, then a written follow-up on anything worth looking into. You’ll leave with an honest read on whether Panama fits, even if the answer is no.
